Regarding the Counter offer...

 

There has been so much research done on this subject that I hesitate to put in my $.02 but I have never seen a counter offer work out for either the employer or the employee.  If you are using a counter offer as a bargaining chip to get a raise you would be better served by asking first.  If you take a counter offer to stay at an employer that you were planning on leaving it is probably time to do some soul searching.
